As the founder of JohnstonWells Public Relations, Gwinavere is known throughout the nation and globally as a leader in public relations. She founded JohnstonWells in 1971 and has blazed the trail for women in public relations since then.
A true pioneer, Johnston has worked on clients such as Coors Brewing Company, Xcel Energy, the Bicentennial of the United States, the Denver Water Department, numerous banks in Colorado including Wells Fargo, many hospitals and medical care devices such as Covidien, a plethora of real estate firms from developers to architects, to homebuilders and many financial services companies. Johnston also is a leader in the community having served on numerous boards of directors including the Girl Scouts, United Way, the University of Wyoming Foundation, the Two Percent Club, Spalding Hospital and the Quality Life Institute.
Johnston is a graduate with a B.S. degree in journalism from the University of Wyoming and did post graduate work at the University of Denver of mass communications. She was honored by the Colorado Chapter with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Citizen of the Year in 2012. Her firm received the Small Business of the Year award from National Philanthropy Colorado and also the same designation from the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts. She served as chair of the Counselors Academy of PRSA in 1989 and president of the Colorado Chapter of PRSA in 1976.
